Annual Report

My time at Mars Hill Church began in 1998.

I volunteered for many years through college and through my early design career. In 2006 with a few years under my belt, I made the decision to dedicate my full time career to show how the Gospel would look visually through Mars Hill. From the nit-picky kerning to large campaigns that lasted years, everything mattered and no detail was too small.

As the church grew, more designers were added  and new departments were created, including video, content, and a marketing teams. Much of my job entailed working with the leaders in each of these departments to create ground-breaking artwork that would help share the message of Mars Hill.

It has been an amazing, challenging, and an exciting place to work the past eight years. Here are some of my favorite and most memorable projects that I've had the opportunity to work on with some extremely talented people.

Music

Over the years, Mars Hill has produced and released a lot of music, eventually creating its own label and partnering with Tooth and Nail Records. Music has always been a big part of the Mars Hill Brand and designing great albums to support the music is a key component for the church.

Easter

Mars Hill Church celebrated Easter in Mars Hill's newest location and one of the oldest churches in Seattle, the Daniels Recital Hall—formerly First Methodist Episcopal Church.

Book Covers

The Resurgence is a popular christian blog which started publishing their own books under the label "ReLit". ReLit has now released over 30 titles from 12 authors.

The Book of Esther

In the old testament book of Esther, God’s hand can be seen working behind the scenes, though there is no mention of his name in the entire book. The Mars Hill Esther series examined the hidden hand of God throughout the whole narrative. Artistically, we wanted to mimic this subtle hidden quality through patterns, lighting, and symbolism in the branding.

Eddie Bauer

Eddie Bauer has a rich history in the northwest. He started his own sporting goods store in Seattle, in 1920 and patiented the first American made quilted down jacket. At the time I worked at Eddie Bauer the brand was all about getting back to it's roots. The focus was on a vintage look and the legacy of Eddie Bauer.
